Maria Oliveras i Collellmir
Argelaguer, Garrotxa, 6 September 1910 — Barcelona, 5 November 2009). Graduated in medicine in 1938 from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, she was one of the few doctors of her generation. In the last months of the Civil War she worked at the Military Hospital of Vallcarca. With the establishment of Francoism, the new authorities did not recognize her studies after 1936, and she did not obtain her degree until 1941. After working at the Municipal Neurological Institute, she was an assistant to the neurosurgeon Adolfo Ley at the Hospital Clínic (1944) as a specialist in anesthesia. In 1947, during a stay in Oxford and London, she expanded her studies in this discipline and from 1948 to 1963 she was an anesthesiologist at the Hospital Clínic and in private centers, in which she introduced the latest advances in anesthesia. From that year until his retirement in 1980, he dedicated himself to laboratory work. The Catalan Society of Anesthesiology posthumously awarded him the Gold Medal.
