Jacint Verdaguer was a great connoisseur of plants, and his work, full of references to the plant world, shows this. A great hiker and traveler, in his walks and crossings through the Pyrenees he enjoyed the beauty of the environment and the diversity of flowers, herbs and trees, their symbolism, the sonority of the names with which they are called and, especially, the roots they have in popular culture. Based on the reading of the complete work of the poet from Folgueroles, M. Carme Barceló has compiled a catalogue of 437 popular phytonyms corresponding to 307 plant species that includes, in each case, a photograph, the botanical sheet and one or more Verdaguerian texts. This floristic diversity reveals Verdaguer's vast botanical culture and is further proof of the rigor and devotion with which he contemplated, admired and described our landscape.
